Measuring Area

Mrs Crescini gave us a problem to solve:
If I used 14 squares to cover the area of a shape, what shape could I make?
Have a look at our photos having fun solving this problem!

Doubles Aren't Trouble!

Kindergarten have been doing lots of activities to learn their double facts.
A double is when we add a number to itself, like 2 + 2.
Learning our doubles is important so that we can use this knowledge to add fluently.
Here are some pictures of Kindy Gold playing a doubles game with a partner:

How many double facts can you remember quickly?

Position

To kick off term 3, Kinder Gold did a bit of revision on Position. We read a story about a cat named 'Pete' and used the pictures in the story book to describe the position of things.
We then coloured and cut our own Pete the Cat and our own bus. We worked with a partner to take turns to describe to each other where to place Pete the Cat in relation to the bus. Have a look at some of us using our language of position in the video below!

We also made a poster that is up on our Maths Wall to remind us of some of the important position words we used...

Domino Addition!

Here Kindy Gold are using dominoes to add two numbers together.
Some children are doing a fantastic job by using the 'count on' strategy to add their dots together.

Subitizing

Subitizing is when we can recognise dotted patterns instantly. Here Kinder Gold are playing a subitizing game with a partner, where they take turns rolling a dice and quickly identifying the pattern they see. They then put a counter on the matching pattern on their Ladybug board game.

Here is a video of different dotted patterns to 6. How fast can you recognise the patterns?

3D Objects

This week K Gold is exploring 3D objects. Below is a cool rap that we learned about 4 of those 3D shapes - Sphere, Cylinder, Cube and Cone.
Watch the rap again and see if you can go on an object hunt at home and find as many spheres, cylinders, cubes and cones as you can!

I wonder how many you can find?

Length

Kinder Gold enjoyed doing the activities to explore the concept of tall, long and short.

We did lots of fun, hands on activities where we had to measure and order various things from shortest to longest. Have a browse through the slideshow to see!

Here they are ordering themselves in height order from shortest to tallest - what a great job they did!
We also discovered the tallest boy and girl in our class - Elijah and Ella

Writing our numbers to 20!

Here are pictures of K Gold ordering the numbers 11 to 20.
They are so clever, aren't they? :)

2D Shapes

Kinderer Gold spent two weeks exploring 2D shapes. Here are some of the activities we got up to in our learning of 2D shapes...

Making Shape Monsters with a variety of 2D shapes!

Learning the shapes through singing!

Learning the names of the shapes by playing Memory Game!

Numbers Are Fun!

K Gold play many Number Activities that help them recognise, order and count numbers.
The game the children are playing in this video is called 'Where's The Worm'
In this activity, the children work on automatically recognising their numbers in a fun and engaging way!

Have a browse through our numerous photos to see K Gold actively engaged in learning their numbers!

Patterns, Patterns, Patterns!

A pattern is something a sequence that repeats over and over. This week in Maths we explored this concept and made lots of different patterns, using colours, toys and blocks.

We even made paper chain patterns!

Have a look at the slideshow to see all of the patterns we created this week :)
